Content scheduling

After completing the course the student can:
• distinguish the differences between businesses representing basic hospitality and tourism services and those providing services based on wellness tourism
• recognise the trends in wellness tourism and identify the different wellness concepts
Contents:
• Basics in tourism and hospitality business
• Determinants and trends of wellness tourism
• Wellness concepts: spa, wellness tourism, thermal & mineral, nature wellness, and other wellness lifestyles

Objective

The past years have seen vast development in the wellness industry e.g., spas and wellness hotels around the globe. This course is created as a summer online course by Turku University of Applied Sciences.

After completing the course the student can:
• distinguish the differences between businesses representing basic hospitality and tourism services and those providing services based on
wellness tourism
• recognise the trends in wellness tourism and identify the different wellness concepts

• Basics in tourism and hospitality business
• Determinants and trends of wellness tourism
• Wellness concepts: spa, wellness tourism, thermal & mineral, nature wellness, and other wellness lifestyles

Teaching methods

Fully online using "PedaNet" eLearning space. This course is also a pedagogical pilot, hence feedback on software usability is also needed from the students at the end of the course in June 2019.
Teaching at TUAS is based on #Innopeda, a learning method developed at TUAS. It is based on experimenting, sharing know-how and combining different approaches. The course is worth 2 ects which means 54hrs of student work
* There are three assignments; one short essay and two group conversations
* Essay 50% of the overall mark (1-5 or failed)
* Both group conversations 25% + 25% of the overall mark (Pass-failed)

Evaluation methods and criteria

The assessment criteria will be thoroughly explained at the eLearning area.
We use numeric marking 1-5/failed
