Content scheduling
Kurssilla käsitellään älykkäisiin sähköverkkoihin liittyviä teemoja:
- sähköverkon rakenne ja toiminta
- sähköverkkojen älykkäät toiminnot ja teknologiat
- sähköverkon tasapainon ylläpito ja reservimarkkinat
- kysynnän jousto
Objective
After completing the course, the student is able to:
- Understand special characteristics of distributed renewable energy production
- Evaluate challenges that new production will represent
- Suggest solutions to tackle the challenges
- Understand the basics of power quality and control issues in converter dominated grid
- Understand basics of microgrids and grid protection
Content
Energy transition is ongoing and clean distributed renewable energy production and electrical transportation needs to be integrated for the electrical distribution grid. Future electrical energy system will have significantly more fluctuating production and increasing proportion of power converters. Intermittent and not controllable energy production cannot be easily matched with energy consumption. These new energy production types are challenging the grid stability, make grid protections more complicated and will also require new business models. In the other hand, advances in technology like new converters, IoT and smart control instrumentation opens new possibilities. The objective of the Smart Grids course is to give an insight on the challenges the electrical energy distribution grid is facing. Existing and future solutions for energy management, grid stability and protections will be investigated technically and economically.
The following topics are covered:
- Integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DER)
- Advanced monitoring infrastructure
- Smart grid protections for bi-directional power flow
- Power Quality and grid stability
- Distributed control of converter dominated grid
- Demand management
- Auxiliary services by inverters and energy storage systems (ESS)
- Microgrids and island grids
- Grid modelling and simulation tools
