Tavoitteet

Entrepreneurial Business provides students with the concepts and tools to assess, discover and unlock the potential for seeing opportunity, and to translate the opportunity or idea into a business. Students will explore what skills, knowledge and behaviors are useful to the entrepreneur and engage in community based research.

This course is an advanced introduction to creating a new business. It is designed to provide a foundation for the emerging role and contribution of entrepreneurial firms and small businesses in local, national, and global economies. Emphasis will be placed on gaining hands-on knowledge as well as understanding the principles of creating and servicing business ventures from novel ideas and concepts and researching them through the development and presentation of business plans. Therefore, participants will gain skills and learn how to create, manage, and operate new business venture as well as improve the management and operation of new ventures. It is expected that the practical knowledge and understanding of entrepreneurship and small business management will provide the foundation and intellectual guidance for your entrepreneurial aspirations and pursuits. Participants will learn how to recognize and identify new and emerging opportunities as well as how to mobilize resources to exploit them. Finally, participants will propose a business idea or concept, conduct research, and design and develop a ‘business plan’ to document the opportunity as well as a new product or business idea. Students will then present such as “Dragons Den” or “Shark Tank” format.

Sisältö

Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to:

1. Explore various business models for new businesses
2. Develop an understanding of the ways of entrepreneurial thinking and the overall spirit of the term.
3. Study the influence/effect of industry, markets and competitive forces in the marketplace as it relates to starting a new business.
4. Study fundamentals of finance, marketing operations and useful digital tools for starting an entrepreneurship.
5. Develop an awareness of the opportunities that technology (social media/ virtual conferences, etc.)
6. Appreciate the micro and macroeconomic factors (capital funding, finance options, silent partners or investors, etc.)
7. Establish the foundational knowledge of how to prepare and execute a distinguished business plan.

5 ECTS credits/135 working hours: Contact days 16 hours, assignments 119 hours

I- Team Idea Development
Your teams will be discuss and agree upon a project concept that will then be reviewed with professor for approval.

II- Team Final Group Project
After approval of concept – your teams will then proceed to develop the idea and create a business plan.

I encourage you to also create a prototype and then we will have a formal presentation of your new business – PPT is required for audience.
I will also give you a template for a business plan. Everything else is pure creativity.

Evaluation in this course will be ongoing assessment throughout the semester. Evaluation is designed to provide feedback from the instructor on your proficiency in meeting the course objectives and universal competencies as set forth above.

3. Presentations
4. Business Plan
