Sisällön jaksotus

The purpose of this fully live remote course is to strengthen your ability to anticipate, critically analyze and appropriately respond to some of the key ethical challenges that confront managers in a global economy.
Business ethics will be examined in this course. Topics include: an overview of business ethics, some of the ethical issues in business, identifying and applying moral philosophies to business ethics, social responsibility, organizational culture and ethical decision making, organizational relationships and conflicts in ethical decision making, development of an effective ethics program, business ethics in a global context, as well as ethics and organizational performance.
Some of the outcomes you should expect from this course are to be able to:

1. Express an understanding of the difference between ethics and business ethics.
2. Describe how moral reasoning in business has evolved.
3. Demonstrate an understanding of the philosophical underpinnings of business ethics.
4. Discuss the moral responsibility of both individuals and organizations.
5. Identify some of the moral issues in business.
6. Explain the different models of justice and economic systems.
7. Outline corporate social responsibility, governance, disclosure and executive compensation and how these structures relate to ethical behaviors.
The course is starting on January, 19th 2021 and ending in the end of April 2021.

Opetusmenetelmät

This course is self -directive. There is no lectures or teaching.
One section of the course will be realized in co-operation with NJCU
New Jersey City University

There will be three assignments:
1. warm-up task(pre-assignment) TUAS
2. reading circle with all students (TUAS+ NJCU) - asynchronously online on a disucssion forum
3. individual report on a chosen topic TUAS.

Pedagogiset toimintatavat ja kestävä kehitys

This is an on line class. There will be weekly discussion boards and everyone is expected to take part in those discussions. Each person’s point of view must be respected and the teacher will ensure remaining on topic. These discussions are designed to insure that everyone understands the readings and to explore the ideas represented in those readings.
In addition to the specific content goals of this course, you should also expect to develop greater proficiency in some of the universal competencies.
1. Reading for Understanding – Each week, students will be asked to read text book, online references, and academic articles. They will be expected to express their understanding of the reading through proficiency and through class discussion.
2. Writing Skills: Students will be required to produce written assignments as previously defined, using appropriate grammar, spelling, punctuation, and TUAS thesis instructions .
3. Research Skills: Students will be required to research academic publications for use as references in the course required written assignments. In preparing the required papers, students will follow the academic integrity policy of the University and demonstrate their knowledge of appropriate citations and references to support their positions.
4. Critical Thinking: Students will be asked to define concepts, theories, or key words and then to apply those definitions to practical read-world application or examples in both class discussion and written exams.

Evaluation in this course will be ongoing assessment throughout the semester. Tips include not missing any posts in discussion board and not being late in your paper submissions. No late papers accepted – no late postings accepted.

The course will be evaluated approved - disapproved.
