Teaching methods

When you also use Finnish outside of class, your language skills will increase and strengthen. Activity in your doing of the weekly exercises will lead you to a powerful basement of Finnish.

Exam schedules

You can find the deadlines for the weekly assignments in itslearning. Assignments have to be completed during the course.

Exam will be held at the end of the course, both written and oral. Also some smaller tests during the course.

After the course
- your pronunciation is understandable
- you will be able to understand short messages, simple speech and follow the discussion about your own life and family
- you know how to start and end a short dialogue
- you will master basic vocabulary and many key structures
- you will understand the main ideas of short texts
- you are able to write short, simple messages
- you can use specific vocabulary related to basic needs

Participation in the course requires at least A1 proficiency in Finnish.

The lessons will be held on Kupittaa campus according to the schedule!

H-5

Assessment methods and criteria

The final grade from 0 to 5 is based on the tasks submitted, activity on the lessons and proven language skills on required level (exam). Only tasks returned on schedule will qualify for full points.

Participation in the lessons (80%) is necessary for evaluation and required to get a grade.

Content scheduling

The aim of the course is to strengthen student’s basic knowledge of Finnish language and to develop language skills. You must have at least A1 level Finnish language skills to participate in the course.

The aim of the course is to reach Finnish language level A2 (CEFR).

The course consists of 44 lessons at Kupittaa campus. In addition, students must study the language independently in order to reach the target language level A2.

The contents of the course are
- reading and writing professional texts
- practising everyday and work-related conversational situations
- familiarising oneself with the basic vocabulary of one's profession
- practising Finnish grammar

Assessment methods and criteria

Evaluation criteria will be presented in the first lesson and in itslearning workspace.
The grade will be based on the homework and classwork completed on time and on the tasks to be evaluated. During the course, the student's oral and written language skills are evaluated.

- you will be able to understand short messages, simple speech and follow the discussion about your own life and family plans
- you can distinguish between topic changes in TV news
- you know how to start and end a short dialogue
- you will master basic vocabulary and many key structures (such as past forms and conjunctions).
- you will understand the main ideas of short texts and some details of a couple of paragraphs of text based on the context
- you are able to write short, simple messages, which can be personal letters, notes and e-mails related to everyday situations,
- you can use specific vocabulary related to basic needs, basic time formats and simple conjunctions (and,
but) connected parallel sentences.

Participation in the course requires at least A1 proficiency in Finnish.
