Objective

The students will be able to
• expand their knowledge of contemporary painting
• position their personal style of expression in relation to the field of contemporary art
• consider their expression from the aesthetic and ethical perspective
• actively study and analyse phenomena in regional, national and global fine art and obtain information independently on phenomena and artists that support the students’ personal exploration into their own expression.

Content

The course introduces the content and modes of expression in contemporary art. What can a painting say about today’s society, and how? Which materials are environmentally sustainable? The students will discuss the available modes of expression for an artist’s message in relation to the interpretation of the viewer. The course may also include visits to the studios of contemporary artists and artist lectures on the process of painting. In addition to a painting task, the students will create a visual presentation about a contemporary painter of their choice as instructed by the teacher and based on source materials.

during four weeks period students show they master professional working skills

Evaluation scale

Assessment methods and criteria

In the end of the workshop there will be final talk with the whole team where students by talk and prints show their mastery to the subject.

Assessment criteria, fail (0)

No approved practical works and presence in teaching is less than 80%.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

Student
- can adapt given instructions to one’s own working
- can use essential professional concepts and tools and apply them to one’s own expression
- participates with dialogical manner to interactive situations

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

furthermore to previous student
- can plan one’s own working and recognize the stages of working process
- can estimate and schedule one’s working
- proves to be familiar with basics and concept of the method
- works and acts with ecological and ethical principals
- is able to deepen and developing one’s personal expression
- can situate one’s working in broader connections and to the field of contemporary art

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
