The student completes the given assignments by the deadline.
The assessment is based on the following evaluated assignments:

In addition, the student must complete pre-class work and participate in the lessons. The requirement is to be present in all lessons at the campus because some of the evaluated assignments will be completed then. The lessons on Teams are also mandatory, but absence from one or two online lessons will not affect negatively. The student is then responsible to study the material on their own.
Late submissions will not be accepted or graded and absences cannot be compensated with extra work. If the student passes the course, it is not possible to redo any assignment in order to try to raise the grade (as per degree regulation). Deadlines are non-negotiable and late submissions will not be accepted.

The student must complete at least 5 of the 10 pre-class and other tasks, anything under this will affect negatively in final evaluation.
Participation in lessons: the student must be present in 9 lessons out of 14 (64%). Mandatory lessons have been marked in the course schedule in itslearning. The requirement of attendance is based on the nature of the studied subject. Learning and practicing a language is often done with other people, not alone.
The final evaluation: tasks 1-4 (the average of assignments 1-4) and completion of pre-class work and other course tasks on time (-/ok) + participation in lessons (min. 9 lessons)
NB:
Active attendance is required due to the nature of the studied subject. The student must be present in some specified lessons in order to be able to pass the course. The obligatory lessons will be informed by the teacher in more detail at the beginning of the course.

In addition, the students have to complete tasks individually, in pairs and as a group which enhances their communication and interpersonal skills. The assessment is continuous and teacher and peer assessment is provided after the completion of each task.
The course deals with the theme of sustainable development in discussing presenting, reading articles about general concepts ( e.g. green IT, energy efficiency), technologies & strategies (such as cloud computing, virtualization); social & ethical issues ( e.g. data privacy, digital divide, inclusive access)
Completion alternatives
A: The student can complete the English Professional Skills B2 (5ECTS) and complete Accreditation of Prior Learning based on Competence (not transfer of credits):
Within two weeks since the course start, the student submits a video and a written report showcasing expertise in oral and written workplace communication and professional communication. The report must include concrete examples of workplace communication (e.g. meetings, negotiations, written reports, instructions, emails, and so on). If the submission fulfills the assessment criteria, the student can attain the credits. If the submission does not meet the criteria, the student joins the course.
B: The student can complete the English Professional Skills B2 (5ECTS) and complete Transfer of Credits within the first two weeks of the course if the student has completed a course with the same credits and similar content at a same level (higher education)) educational institution within the last 5 years. The student will also need to provide an official transcript and course content description. Please note that this method of attainment does not apply to Open Path students

The student has completed the tasks with the minimum of set requirements which are outlined by the teacher and are listed in the task instructions. The student has completed tasks later than the given deadlines. The student has not addressed feedback provided by the teacher. The student has been superficially reflecting on his/her own performance and has been late or reluctant to give peer feedback.

The student has completed the tasks well fulfilling most of the set requirements which are outlined by the teachers and are listed in the task instructions. The contents and the assessed outputs of the course are designed to provide the students with English language communication skills they need in working life especially when working in projects. Examples include producing instructions and reports, organizing physical and online meetings and producing the relevant documents and emails, collaborative writing and presentation of results. In addition, the students have to complete tasks individually, in pairs and as a group which enhances their communication and interpersonal skills. The assessment is continuous and teacher and peer assessment is provided after the completion of each task.
The course deals with the theme of sustainable development in discussing presenting, reading articles about general concepts ( e.g. green IT, energy efficiency), technologies & strategies (such as cloud computing, virtualization); social & ethical issues ( e.g. data privacy, digital divide, inclusive access)
Completion alternatives
A: The student can complete the English Professional Skills B2 (5ECTS) and complete Accreditation of Prior Learning based on Competence (not transfer of credits):
Within two weeks since the course start, the student submits a video and a written report showcasing expertise in oral and written workplace communication and professional communication. The report must include concrete examples of workplace communication (e.g. meetings, negotiations, written reports, instructions, emails, and so on). If the submission fulfills the assessment criteria, the student can attain the credits. If the submission does not meet the criteria, the student joins the course.
B: The student can complete the English Professional Skills B2 (5ECTS) and complete Transfer of Credits within the first two weeks of the course if the student has completed a course with the same credits and similar content at a same level (higher education)) educational institution within the last 5 years. The student will also need to provide an official transcript and course content description. Please note that this method of attainment does not apply to Open Path students

A: The student can complete the English Professional Skills B2 (5ECTS) and complete Accreditation of Prior Learning based on Competence (not transfer of credits):
Within two weeks since the course start, the student submits a video and a written report showcasing expertise in oral and written workplace communication and professional communication. The report must include concrete examples of workplace communication (e.g. meetings, negotiations, written reports, instructions, emails, and so on). If the submission fulfills the assessment criteria, the student can attain the credits. If the submission does not meet the criteria, the student joins the course.
B: The student can complete the English Professional Skills B2 (5ECTS) and complete Transfer of Credits within the first two weeks of the course if the student has completed a course with the same credits and similar content at a same level (higher education)) educational institution within the last 5 years. The contents and the assessed outputs of the course are designed to provide the students with English language communication skills they need in working life especially when working in projects. Examples include producing instructions and reports, organizing physical and online meetings and producing the relevant documents and emails, collaborative writing and presentation of results. In addition, the students have to complete tasks individually, in pairs and as a group which enhances their communication and interpersonal skills. The assessment is continuous and teacher and peer assessment is provided after the completion of each task.
Completion alternatives
A: The student can complete the English Professional Skills B2 (5ECTS) and complete Accreditation of Prior Learning based on Competence (not transfer of credits):
Within two weeks since the course start, the student submits a video and a written report showcasing expertise in oral and written workplace communication and professional communication. The report must include concrete examples of workplace communication (e.g. meetings, negotiations, written reports, instructions, emails, and so on). If the submission fulfills the assessment criteria, the student can attain the credits. If the submission does not meet the criteria, the student joins the course.
B: The student can complete the English Professional Skills B2 (5ECTS) and complete Transfer of Credits within the first two weeks of the course if the student has completed a course with the same credits and similar content at a same level (higher education)) educational institution within the last 5 years. The student will also need to provide an official transcript and course content description. Please note that this method of attainment does not apply to Open Path students

The contents and the assessed outputs of the course are designed to provide the students with English language communication skills they need in working life especially when working on projects. Examples include producing instructions and reports, organizing physical and online meetings and producing the relevant documents and emails, collaborative writing, and presentation of results. In addition, the students have to complete tasks individually, in pairs, and as a group which enhances their communication and interpersonal skills. The assessment is continuous and teacher and peer assessment are provided after the completion of each task.
Completion alternatives
A: The student can complete the English Professional Skills B2 (5ECTS) and complete Accreditation of Prior Learning based on Competence (not transfer of credits):
Within two weeks since the course start, the student submits a video and a written report showcasing expertise in oral and written workplace communication and professional communication. The report must include concrete examples of workplace communication (e.g. meetings, negotiations, written reports, instructions, emails, and so on). If the submission fulfills the assessment criteria, the student can attain the credits. If the submission does not meet the criteria, the student joins the course.
B: The student can complete the English Professional Skills B2 (5ECTS) and complete Transfer of Credits within the first two weeks of the course if the student has completed a course with the same credits and similar content at a same level (higher education)) educational institution within the last 5 years. The student will also need to provide an official transcript and course content description. Please note that this method of attainment does not apply to Open Path students

The course deals with various communicative situations in English. The course includes the following topics:

- The Pump Design Project (in co-operation with Pekka Jukantupa: Engineering Physics 2)

The students need a laptop with a working microphone and camera for online lessons and are expected to participate actively.

5 = excellent (CEFR B2- C level)
The score is equivalent to grades 0-5 as follows:

Part 2: Obligatory pre-class work and other given tasks (professional call, field-related discussion, team meetings) completed on time and active demonstration of skills in online meetings (may lower or raise the final grade)
NB:
Active attendance is required due to the nature of the studied subject. The student must be present in some specified sessions in order to be able to pass the course. The obligatory sessions will be informed by the teacher in more detail at the beginning of the course.
All evaluated assignments must be done even if they are returned late before any credits can be gained. If an evaluated assignments not accepted when returned, it must be done again at the latest by the end of the course.
Absences cannot be compensated with extra work and there are no exceptions to deadlines.
