The students will independently study the theory presented on ItsLearning and in the course litterature. The group exercises will be done at campus during contact days.

The theoretical part of the course is done remotely on the ItsLearning platform.
The practical part is done as group exercises in measurement technology at campus.

Sisällön jaksotus

In this course the student will learn the basics of measurement technology. The course contains basic concepts in Metrology such as the SI-system, Measurement uncertainty, Traceability and Calibration, as well as more practical content about the measurement of different physical quantities.

Arviointimenetelmät ja arvioinnin perusteet

The grading will be based 50% on the individual assignments in Itslearning, and 50% on the group exercise.

The student does not know the basic concepts of measurement technology.

Arviointikriteerit, tyydyttävä (1-2)

The student understands the basic principles of measurement technology.
The student can perform a measurement of a physical quantity as instructed.
The student is vaguely aware of the concept of calibration.

Arviointikriteerit, hyvä (3-4)

The student can independently perform measurements.
The student understands the calibration process, and the relation between the measured quantity and the SI system.

Arviointikriteerit, kiitettävä (5)

The student can independently familiarize himself/herself/themselves with a physical quantity, perform a measurement related to the quantity in question, and can describe the measurement principles and calibration chain of the measurement device used.
