Objective

You will learn how English is studied in higher education institutions in Finland: how lectures, independent study, and group work support each other. You will learn language learning strategies, as well as how to find reliable information online and how to refer to different sources. You will learn the basic differences between academic and non-formal writing. You will also receive information about Finnish higher education study culture.

Content

The course focuses on improving the skills required for studying English at higher education institutions in Finland. It also includes some grammar, but the focus is more on study skills, language learning strategies as well as information retrieval. The course will consist of both independent study and online meetings with the teachers, which will focus on oral skills, working in groups on assignments, active participation, and student-centred learning.
