Objective

You can communicate in familiar, everyday situations. You will be able to derive meanings based on the context and follow an interaction situation. You can give simple instructions and describe your immediate surroundings. You learn to write short texts on familiar topics, recognise features of everyday language, understand clear speech, and to read short texts about familiar situations and predictable topics. Essentially, you can understand content and react logically. You can tell about things that are important to you (e.g. hobbies, preferences), act in everyday situations (buying/shopping for food, going to a restaurant, using public transportation, visiting the health centre). You will also learn about phenomena related to the Finnish lifestyle (e.g. celebration traditions, various weekends, and music life). You will increase your vocabulary, develop your language skills (Life Long Learning) and your cultural competence also on your own. You will also learn to use different materials and tools in language learning.

Content

You will deepen your knowledge of Swedish with a larger vocabulary and phrases. You will expand your vocabulary e.g. in the following topics: leisure, food and drinks, health and celebrations. You will also learn vocabulary related to working life, e.g. the most common occupations and workplaces. The basic grammar focuses on common verbs, adverbs indicating a place, prepositions, definite and indefinite nouns, plural genitive and past tense.

Qualifications

Participation in the course requires proficiency level A1 in Swedish.
