Objective

Having completed the course, the student is able to
- develop profitable, customer oriented and innovative solutions
- apply product and service differentiation as a competitive edge
- apply product development process models in practice.

Exam schedules

At the end of the course, a multiple-choice exam in Itslearning. The exam is open for a week and you can use the course materials whilst taking the exam.

Content scheduling

During the course, the student learns the basics of customer-oriented development methods.

As a group, students plan innovative solutions to everyday problems. Students present their solutions and receive feedback (peer feedback, teacher feedback).

After completing the course, the student:
- knows how to use various customer-oriented tools in the development of a new service/product
- can prepare a project plan
- can design presentation material
- knows how to prepare an effective presentation
- can work as a member of a group.

Assessment methods and criteria

The overall grade consists of group and individual assignments, peer evaluation and active participation in joint meetings.

All assignments must be completed in order to pass the course.

Returning assignments late affects the evaluation.

Phase 1 of the project plan 20%
Phase 2 of the project plan 30%
Individual assignment 20%
Multiple choice exam 10%
Active participation 20%

The student does not participate in teaching and doing assignments.
Not all assignments have been returned or completed successfully.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

Student
- understands the role of innovation and development in business
- identifies the stages of the development process
- owns the basic skills of service and product development
- can prepare comprehensible presentation material about the new service/product.

The student is present at joint meetings, but does not participate in the discussion during classes.
All tasks have been returned, but they have clear shortcomings and the outputs remain at a very general level.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

Student
- understands the role of innovations and the different phases in business
- knows how to apply development methods in practice
- knows how to develop innovative solutions for market needs
- knows how to consider and act in active interaction with customers when planning a new service/product
- can present a new service/product.

The student is present at joint meetings and participates in the discussion during classes.
Student plays an active role in assignments and presentations.
All tasks have been returned on time according to the instructions. The outputs are clear, justified and contain source material.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Student
- understands the role of innovations and the different phases in business
- knows how to apply development methods in practice
- knows how to develop innovative solutions for market needs
- knows how to consider and act in active interaction with customers when planning a new service/product
- can present a new service/product impressively
- works in an active role in the group.

The student is present at joint meetings and actively participates in the discussion during classes.
Students play a strong role in productions and performances.
The student knows how to apply the learning material to practical work.
All tasks have been returned according to the instructions.
The products are professionally made with good justification and show the ability to combine versatile source material and own reflection.
