Objective
BASICS OF NURSING IN MEDICAL SURGICAL PATIENTS 5 ETCS SIHO
The course includes 1 ETCS of studies in English
Objectives:
Student
• knows the most common internal diseases as well as the clinical pathway and evidence-based nursing process of a medical surgical patient
• masters the key examinations, treatment procedures and nursing methods used in the treatment of a medical surgical patient while observing patient safety
• recognises and understands the significance and need of rehabilitation in the treatment process of a medical surgical patient
• is familiar with the role and significance of the nurse in the guidance and support of disease prevention and self care and masters the necessary methods in a multiprofessional team
• knows the most common medication used in the treatment of internal diseases
• is able to integrate nutritional care and guidance together with a multidisciplinary expert network in the nursing of a medical surgical patient
• knows how to work as a team member in a multiprofessional work community
• learns more in simulation about the support and guidance of medical surgical patients and perioperative patients and clients as well as their self care in a multidisciplinary manner.
• gains experience in implementing infusion treatment in simulation

• Key research and treatment measures used in the treatment of medical surgical patients
• Clinical pathways, treatment methods and rehabilitation of medical surgical patients in acute and long-term care
• Prevention of internal diseases, guidance of medical surgical patients, support for self care and commitment to treatment
• Medication used in the treatment of a medical surgical patient
• Nutritional care and guidance of medical surgical patients and the most common special diets
During the simulations:
• the students practise clinical competence in the basics of nursing and infusion treatment for medical surgical and perioperative patients
• students practise multidisciplinary interaction and guiding patients.
