Content scheduling
A peer tutor is a master’s degree student in the health and well-being sector who has previously started his/her studies.
A peer tutor:
• supports the grouping and integration of new master’s degree students into the student community in the health and well-being sector
• provides low-threshold peer support during the early stages of studies (in the first semester)
• promotes students’ self-direction, study motivation, and commitment to their studies
As a peer tutor, you will:
• Participate in the peer tutor orientation sessions
• Plan the peer tutoring activities with other peer tutors and the Degree Programme Leader
• Ensure that each new degree programme has at least two peer tutors who work together as a tutor pair for that programme
• Take part in the orientation days for new students (start of Terhy studies and programme-specific orientation)
• Provide peer support by answering student questions (via the programme’s WhatsApp group)
• Organize four informal discussion sessions (“porinapaja”) with your peer tutor partner for the students in your assigned programme (themes are pre-planned), and one joint session for all groups at the end
• Maintain contact with the programme’s teacher tutors
• Participate in recruiting peer tutors for the next semester
Objective
The goal of peer tutoring is to promote student well-being in the university of applied sciences.
As a peer tutor, you will:
• network with other students and teachers
• gain experience in guidance and mentoring
• develop your pedagogical skills and teamwork abilities

A peer tutor:

Student workload
The student acts as a peer tutor for new students during their first semester.
They participate in a 4-hour orientation before starting their peer tutoring.
They attend peer tutor meetings (4–5 times, approximately 8–10 hours in total).
They complete a pre-assignment and a self-assessment.
Credits per Semester
• If tutoring 1 group = 2 ECTS credits
• If tutoring 2–3 groups = 3 ECTS credits
• If also acting as a lead tutor = +1 ECTS credit
Maximum of 5 ECTS credits

• Participation in orientation and planning of peer tutoring
• Participation in the implementation of peer tutoring
• Participation in the recruitment of new peer tutors
• Completion of the preparatory assignment and self-assessment related to peer tutoring
