Teaching methods

Before the on-campus days, students receive preparatory material to help them familiarize themselves with the topic.
During the on-campus days, the topic is explored in depth through expert and guest lectures.
The course includes a case-based group assignment, as well as an individual essay and a written exam.

Exam schedules

The written exam will take place on April 11th at the Kupittaa campus, using your own device. There are two opportunities for re-taking the exam in case of a failed result.

International connections

The orientation material provided to students before the on-campus days enables them to gain a preliminary understanding of the topic and lays a foundation for independent preparation. This approach supports students’ readiness to engage with more in-depth knowledge during the on-campus sessions.

The on-campus days are designed to deepen the topic through expert and guest lectures. These lectures provide current and practical insights into the course subject, helping students connect theory with practice and offering opportunities for questions and discussion.

The collaborative case assignment develops teamwork skills and the ability to apply new knowledge. Students work together on challenges simulating real-world scenarios, which promotes problem-solving and communal knowledge building.

The essay assignment offers an opportunity for deep reflection and analysis, while the written exam ensures mastery of course content aligned with the course objectives and serves as a comprehensive assessment of knowledge.

Assessment methods and criteria

The case assignment to be submitted as a group will be assessed as Fail/Pass.
The individual essay to be submitted will be assessed as Fail/Pass.
The written exam will be assessed on a scale of Fail/T1-K5, with the result serving as the final grade for the course.

Assessment criteria, fail (0)

The student has not submitted all assignments, has not participated in on-campus sessions, and has not successfully completed any replacement assignments. The submitted tasks are incomplete and/or do not meet most of the requirements outlined in the assignment instructions.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student has participated in the on-campus sessions and has successfully completed all assignments (any absences have been compensated by requesting replacement tasks). Based on the assignments, the student identifies key challenges and potential solutions related to the implementation, usability, and evaluation of health technology. The student is able to apply these concepts with limited success in the social and healthcare environment.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student has participated in the on-campus sessions and has successfully completed all assignments (any absences have been compensated by requesting replacement tasks). Based on the assignments, the student demonstrates a good understanding of the key challenges and solutions related to the implementation, usability, and evaluation of health technology and is able to apply these concepts in the social and healthcare environment.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student has participated in the on-campus sessions and has successfully completed all assignments (any absences have been compensated by requesting replacement tasks). Based on the assignments, the student demonstrates a thorough understanding of the key challenges and solution models related to the implementation, usability, and evaluation of health technology. The student shows the ability to successfully apply this knowledge in the social and healthcare environment.

Teaching methods

Before the upcoming days, students will receive an orientation material, which they can use to familiarize themselves with the subject matter. In the following days, the topic will be further explored through expert and guest lecturer presentations.
The course will involve a case assignment related to defining, evaluating, and implementing health technology. This task will be worked on in interdisciplinary small groups and peer-reviewed. As an assessed final output, students will submit an essay. The theoretical information in the course will be covered through both lectures and written materials.

The group-submitted case assignment will have peer assessment H-5. It will impact the individual grade positively or negatively by +/- 1.

The individually submitted essay will be graded H-5.

The final grade will be determined by the assessments of the essay and the group assignment (with an increasing or decreasing effect).
