Assessment methods and criteria
In English
The total grade 0-5 for the course is calculated using the course points collected (max 100 points). Course points can be collected
- Two sub-tests (á max 50 p)
- Independent exercises at ViLLE (max. 6 points)
- Weekly calculation exercises (max 12 pts). A precondition for receiving the course points is returning calculation tasks in advance and a self-evaluation based on calculation lesson or model solutions, which has been returned by the normative duration of studies (usually by the end of the week).
The total number of course points collected from the exercises is 18 p, corresponding to approximately 1.5 course numbers.
Students who complete the course with intermediate exams must take both exams. If the completion of the second intermediate exam is exhausted, the course will be renewed with the exam.
Assessment criteria, fail (0)
The student does not achieve at least 40% of the course points = 40p
The student has not participated in both midterm exams.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
Grade 1 requires at least 40% of the course points = 40p
Grade 2 requires at least 52% of the course points = 52p
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
A grade of 3 requires at least 40% of the course points = 64p

2. Are able to clearly communicate the fundamental concepts of LCA
3. Understand the results of a LCA analysis.
4. Practice work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team
5. Practice think in a customer-oriented way
6.Practice to act independently using external networks and resources to manage a work successfully
Content
Life cycle assessment (LCA) is used to assess environmental impacts of different subjects, such as products, services, processes and economic activities. They can also be used as a basis for reducing the environmental impacts, for example by highlighting the problem areas and finding alternatives for the causes.
The core idea of a LCA is to look at the complete life cycle of a subject and both identify and quantify the different sources of environmental loads. There exists many different types of LCAs, some compare different products to each other and can be more simplified while others investigate the life cycle of one product in high detail and accuracy, some describe the current situation while others focus on capturing consequences of decisions. LCAs can be constructed based on processes when there is detailed data available but they can also be based on input-output data.

In addition, support material distributed through the Itslearning system is included.
Teaching methods
Blended learning, contact teaching, task-based learning, independent study, teamwork, electronic materials and assignments.
The course introduces the basic physics skills that form the basis of engineering. In addition to supervised independent study based on electronic materials and textbooks, arithmetic exercises play an essential role in the work. The exercises are worked on both independently and in small groups.
Exam schedules
Subtests 1 and 2 during the course on campus
At the end of the course, there will be two retakes, where you can retake either of the subtests 1 and 2.
International connections
The course is implemented as contact teaching on campus. The course proceeds by weekly theme as follows:
1. Students independently familiarise themselves with the theme with the help of a textbook, instructional videos and various support materials before the lecture (shared in Itslearning).
2. Students take part in a lecture session where theory is adopted using versatile learning techniques suitable for the topic.
3. Students practice the weekly theme by doing arithmetic exercises independently and in small groups. Landing exercises are in the Ville system. Students do their arithmetic exercises in the same notebook or in some other way into a coherent collection according to notation practices in physics. The answers are entered into the Ville system, where correct answers earn Ville points.
4. There is a weekly arithmetic practice session where the teacher guides in the calculations and gives advice on unanswered questions.
At the end of the course, students present their calculation exercise notebooks to the teacher or otherwise submit a collection of their arithmetic exercises to the teacher for evaluation. In accordance with the notation practices of physics and clearly presented calculation exercises, additional points are awarded for the assessment.
In addition to the weekly themes, the course is divided into two parts, each of which has its own sub-exam.
Student workload
The course is 5 ECTS, i.e. the workload is approximately 135 h.
Exams and preparation as well as Ville assignments require about 15 hours. Thus, 120 h is available for the 12 weekly themes of the course, i.e. 10 h per weekly theme, which is divided as follows:
-Independent work and small group work 7-8 h
-Participation in the teaching event (tips videos and support sessions on average) 2-3 h.
Content scheduling
Opening lecture on week 36. Teaching weekly during weeks 36-50. A more detailed schedule can be found on the course's Itslearning website.

Assessment methods and criteria
The assessment is based on points collected from the calculation exercises (max 16 p.), the first subtest (max 12 p.), the second subtest (max 12 p.)
To pass the course, the student must receive:
--At least 3,5 points for the first subtest and
--At least 3.5 points in the second subtest and
--Ville points in the Ville system total at least 40% of the maximum score (in principle 448/1120 Ville points) and
--A total of at least 16 points for the subtests and calculation exercises.
DETERMINATION OF POINTS FOR CALCULATION EXERCISES:
Points are awarded for the calculation exercises based on the Ville points collected in the Ville system and on the basis of the evaluation of the homework collection returned at the end of the implementation.
----Based on the Ville score, you get a maximum of 12 points for the assessment. The number of points is 12*The percentage of accumulated Ville points is the maximum.
----By doing the calculations in accordance with the notation practices of physics in a notebook or other common collection, you will receive a maximum of 4 points for the assessment. The collection is returned to the teacher at the end of the course for evaluation. The teacher evaluates the notation practices of the notebook according to the criteria given in ItsLearning.
GRADE DETERMINATION:
The grade is determined on the basis of the total number of points (subtests, Ville and calculation exercises) according to the following table:
Grade 1 requires 16 points
Grade 2 requires 21 points
Grade 3 requires 26 points

- The student orientates himself / herself to the field of energy and environment engineering
- The student becomes trained to applying jobs
- The student is able to report on the work and its results
Teaching methods
Basic practical training is usually carried out in the summer of the 1st year of study, but it can also be completed later - either in the summer or during the academic year.
An alternative method of completing basic practical training is the recognition of previous work experience. In this case, a certificate of employment and a brief description of how the work experience has achieved the objectives of the basic internship (on the basic internship self-assessment form) are returned as documents.
Student workload
270 hours
Content scheduling
DESCRIPTION
The student searches for the internship place himself and, after receiving it, fills in the information about the internship place on the form.
1. If he/she receives a salary for a traineeship, he/she normally concludes an employment contract with the traineeship which does not need to be returned to itslearning.
2. In an unpaid internship, the student signs an internship agreement with the internship (download and fill) and sends it to the internship supervisor (hazem.al-bermanei@turkuamk.fi), who enters the agreement into the electronic signing process (AtomiSign). A plan is always made for the training. The plan will be returned to Itslearning no later than the first days of the traineeship.
After the internship, the student conducts a self-assessment of the internship and requests either a certificate of employment or an internship evaluation from the internship place (working place) and returns it.
An alternative method of completing basic practical training is the recognition of previous work experience. In this case, a certificate of employment and a self-assessment of basic training are returned as documents.

In a Research Hatchery (REHA) the learning takes place in a variety of ways: by self-study but also by learning from peers. This is a flexible model for learning that does not offer straightforward answers but motivates the students to work towards goals and take responsibility of their work and learning.
In a REHA students learn about the substance and they also develop their innovation competences: creativity, critical thinking, initiative, group work and networking.
Content
The Research Hatchery is a model in which a multidisciplinary team of students works to solve a circular economy related brief. The need for the brief can rise from a research, development and innovation project, from a client in work life, or from a student. Research Hatchery is led by coaches, people working in the projects and student tutors. Research Hatcheries can be applied in long lasting development projects and as well as short and smaller research projects.
The tasks completed during the project depend on the brief. They might consist of peer development, information search and analysis, the students might interview experts, make visits and conduct research. In addition, the students meet each other regularly without the coach. This can be done face-to-face or using applications. The meetings can take place once a week or less rarely, depending on the brief.

5. Interpersonal competence: After the course, the student has developed his/her communicative and collaborative skills. Student is able to organize and manage working in a multi-disciplinary team of individuals. Student understands the basics of projects’ internal and external communications. Student can apply collaborative working methods in his/her work.
Content
Climate change, depleting natural resources, pollution and urbanization pose some of the greatest challenges in the history of humankind. Good solutions are needed now! These so-called wicked problems are so complex that they need actors from all levels of our society working together. Wicked problems are turned into wicked solutions only by strong collaboration between companies, universities, cities and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). This means that future problem-solvers need to know how to work in the middle ground between the business, research and decision-making sectors. On Solutions.now course it is time to put the knowledge learned from books into practice by solving real life challenges related to sustainability issues. The challenges on the course are given by real companies, who want to make a positive impact with their business.
Much of today’s work consists of working in and leading multidisciplinary projects. However, practical project management courses and company collaborations are non-existent in many university studies. Solutions.now course combines problem- and project-based learning methods with sustainability issues, to let students learn the most critical project management skills while gaining valuable working-life experience. At the same time students learn valuable future skills such as tolerating uncertainties and conflicts and balancing with the knowledge learned from the literature and the frame given by the company.
This course is ideally taken after other sustainability courses so that the students already have some basic knowledge of the complexity of sustainability issues. This course offers a practical way to use that knowledge in real life as well as learn new skills in planning and executing sustainability projects. Students work in multi-disciplinary teams, each team dedicated to one sustainability project. They get to experience how it feels like to use their knowledge to make a positive impact on the world.

Assessment methods and criteria
Kurssi arvioidaan numeerisesti 0-5.
Arviointi perustuu kurssipisteisiin, joita kerätään seuraavasti:
- Laskuharjoitusmonisteista max 1p/moniste = maksimissaan 1p x 10 = 10 p
- Itsenäisistä ViLLE-tehtävistä vaaditun 30 %:n ylittävältä osalta 1 % = 0,1p x 70 % = 7 p (max)
- Yhtälökertaus (tehtävämoniste), luvut ja lausekkeet -osion osaamistesti, kertaustehtävät välikoe 2, á 1 p, yhteensä max 3 p.
--> Edellä mainituilla tavoilla voi kuitenkin maksimissaan kerätä yhteensä 18 p (joka vastaa noin 1,5 numeron korotusta kurssiarvosanaan)
- Kolmesta osakokeesta tai yhdestä kurssitentistä max 100p
Kurssipisteiden saaminen tehtävämonisteista edellyttää niiden palauttamista Itsiin sähköisessä muodossa ja oman suorituksen itsearviointia määräaikaan mennessä. Pisteitä saa suhteessa laskettujen tehtävien määrään.
